Fleet Lists Red & White Services The total number of vehicles that passed through the Red & White fleet between its formation in 1930 and merger with Western Welsh in 1974 was nearly 1800. From 1930 to 1951 the vehicles were numbered in a continuous series starting at 1, and in 1951 the whole fleet was renumbered into a series which indicated the year of delivery and general type of vehicle. The following PDF document lists the vehicles in number order for both series: In order to appreciate the variety of the fleet, the vehicles have also been grouped under the following general headings: 1. Single Deck Buses 2. Coaches 3. Double Deck Buses The earliest vehicles were single deck buses. Coaches followed soon after but many of the first coaches were miscellaneous acquisitions and “one offs” or were rebodied later as buses. The body type on some of the early vehicles has also not been established. They have all therefore been included with the single deck buses. The coach section starts around the early- to mid-1930s when Red & White was expanding rapidly and was purchasing vehicles in significant numbers. Double deckers appeared during the late 1930s and in 1950/51 the underfloor-, and later rear-engined buses and coaches replaced the half-cabs of the previous decade. Vehicles falling under the general headings above have been further classified under chassis type as follows with hyperlinks to PDF pages which give more details and some photographs showing the variations within each type.

United Welsh Services About 600 vehicles were included in the United Welsh fleet between its formation in 1938 and absorption by South Wales Transport in 1971. The fleet was initially allocated blocks within the Red & White fleet list but later additions from 1956 were given new number series. Cheltenham District Traction Newbury & District Motor Services South Midland Motor Services Venture, Basingstoke These four companies were much smaller operations, the number of vehicles passing through the fleets when in Red & White ownership numbering 79, 157, 49 and 95 respectively.
